New rider with a chirping Savage...
Mine did the same thing, and it was
the belt tracking into the outer edge of the front
pulley. Check your alignment. Don't trust the swingarm
index marks, use a large carpenter's level.

The valve train in mine will occasionaly make
a racket as well. Where I live, TN, it is too
warm for a 10W anything oil. Last time I changed it,
went to straight 30 weight non-detergent. Smoother,
quieter, seems to seal the rings better as well.
However, 20W50 would be a better choice until you
really know yopur own bike's individual quirks.

Third common chirp is the front pads riding the
disk at all times. You may want to check tthe pad
to rotor spacing and make sure they are seperated.
Additionally, check your rotor for warpage when you
check the pads. Place a flat, 1 inch or so wide
stick of glass across the rotor face. If a .005
feeler guage will fit between glass and rotor, you
need to replace the rotor. Don't waste money on resurfacing
it, your life is worth more than the new parts cost.
